Kaguya-Hime Syndrome: For the Princesses Who Can’t Find Love

Hello, ladies!

Today, let’s talk about “Kaguya-Hime Syndrome.”

I came up with this name myself, lol and so many women are affected by it.

Not only does it keep them from getting married—it even stops them from getting a boyfriend in the first place.

And here’s the scary part.

Women with Kaguya-Hime Syndrome naturally attract other Kaguya-Hime Syndrome women, forming what I call “The Kaguya-Hime Community.” And as they keep welcoming new “princesses,” this "no-boyfriend-ever" community keeps expanding.

Dangerous, right?

Once you fall into this loop, your entire circle gets pulled further and further away from romance.

Your chances? Gone. Completely.

Do You Know the Story of Kaguya-Hime?

Kaguya-Hime, also known as The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, is one of Japan’s oldest and most famous folktales, written in the 10th century. Even today, it remains a well-known and beloved story in Japan, appearing in literature, movies, and anime.

You might have even seen Studio Ghibli’s 2013 film The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, which brought this classic story. Here’s a quick recap: Kaguya-Hime is a beautiful princess discovered inside a glowing bamboo.

As she grows up, her beauty becomes legendary, attracting countless suitors, including five noblemen who each propose to her.

But instead of accepting their love, she sets impossible challenges:

“Bring me ..." each diferent treasures for that 5 men which don’t exist in this world. One man dies trying to find them. Another brings a fake and gets caught.

Because obviously, those treasures don’t exist.

And in the end, Kaguya-Hime marries no one.

Now, here’s what I want you to remember:

👉 Kaguya-Hime wasn’t testing their love. 👉 She was just rejecting them in a roundabout way.

In other words…

She never intended to marry anyone from the beginning.

Anyone who knows this story understands that.

And yet!And yet!

Women today are doing exactly this— but they tell themselves,

👉 “I just want to see if he really loves me.”

And so, without realizing it, they set impossible tests for men.

Are You Stuck in Kaguya-Hime Syndrome?

You might be thinking, "No way, I’m not like that!"

"I don’t make my boyfriend pick me up in the middle of the night or do crazy tests to prove his love!"

Well, I’m glad to hear that! 😆

But here’s the thing.

Most Kaguya-Hime Syndrome cases are much more subtle. And yet, they’re still strong enough to keep you single.

Keep reading—you might just recognize yourself in some of these patterns.

1. Expecting Him to "Just Know" Without Saying Anything

For example, gifts. 🎁

You don’t tell your boyfriend what you want,

but when he gives you something, you think:

"Seriously? This gift is awful.""He doesn’t understand me at all."

Sound familiar?

2. Testing Him on the First Date

Think about your first dates—

especially with someone you met on a dating app.

How do you choose the place?

Do you give him vague hints and then judge him based on what he picks?

For example...

💡 “I feel like eating italian.” → He takes you to a popular spot, but there’s a long line. → “Ugh, waiting in line on a first date? No sense of planning.”

💡 “I want something healthy.” → He picks a Japanese set meal restaurant. → “Umm… that’s not what I meant.”

Have you ever done this? And worst of all...

You and your princess community laugh about it later, picking apart every little thing he did wrong.

This kind of judgment—especially when shared among friends— is one of the worst things you can do for never find no one.

The Hardest Part of Dating for Men

The other day, I asked my partner this question:

"What do you think is the most important talent man needs to succeed in love?"

Guess what he said?

🧠 “Telepathy.” 🤣

I laughed so hard— but honestly? He’s right.

Women Want to Be Understood, but Men…?

Women often want their partner to "just know" without being told.

Meanwhile, men are expected to put in the effort of reading between the lines.

You might think, “But I do tell him what I want!”

But the truth is, even if you think you’re saying it clearly,

he probably isn’t actually listening. 🤣

Not because he doesn’t care.

It’s just that his brain is already overloaded with work, deadlines, and the stress of keeping his company afloat.

If he’s dealing with major business challenges, he might not even be able to use his brain for anything else. 😆

So, even if you’ve told him something 100 times,

he might still need "telepathy" to remember.

This is why…

so

"He never listens to me = He doesn’t love me"

…is just too oversimplified a conclusion.

How to Break Free from Kaguya-Hime Syndrome

Start by giving your partner or future partner chance to grow.

Love isn’t about two perfect people.

It’s about two imperfect people figuring things out together.

And if "raise him" like too much work,

at least try this:

💡 Clearly express your feelings.

Instead of hoping he’ll just know, testing him, or being disappointed when he doesn’t read your mind,

simply say:

👉 “I like this kind of thing.” 👉 “It would make me happy if you did this.”

That’s all it takes.

Final Thoughts

In the end, Kaguya-Hime never married and returned to the moon.

left them all behind. 😢

But you?

You’re not going back to the moon.

If you truly want love, stop relying on “telepathy” and start using words.

A little shift in mindset can make love so much more fun. 💕 Why I’m Telling You This Today
